Some individual etchings are dated 1821 and published by Colnaghi, and a few dated 1822 were published by W. Sams. Some of the plates are illustrative of Scott's famous and popular poem 'Marmion'. The Scottish National Gallery holds some of the original sketches on which these etchings were based.
