This engraving was made for 'Campden: XXIV Engravings after Pen Drawings'., published by Shakespeare Head Press, 1940. The publication of books on Campden and other Cotswold towns was first discussed with the Shakespeare Head Press in 1922, the year of Griggs's marriage. In the end only this book on Campden was published. The original drawing for this engravings was done in 1914. See COMSTOCK. 'Gothic Vision: F.L. Griggs and His Work' Nos. 935. Griggs drew many meticulous drawings of buildings and views all over England for the 'Highways and Byways' series'. Here he used his skill to depict the Cotswold stone buildings in the area which he loved and lived. Provenance: Tom Greeves [1917-1997], Architect and Artist.
