Lavinia's hotel or Hotel Tiare Tahiti was a legendary establishment, where colonials and islanders could meet, hosted by Lavinia Chapman, and frequented by artists and writers including Stevenson and Gauguin. It could have been the model for the hotel run by Tiare Johnson in Somerset Maugham?s famous novel, 'The Moon and Sixpence'.
