GIUSTO FERDINANDO TENDUCCI [c.1735-1790] Italian Castrato Opera Singer. Engraved Portrait of 'Mr Tenducci', seated at a table, chin resting on right hand, left holding a song, after J. *Giusto Tenducci was a much feted singer, who made his debut in Venice in 1753. He sang in Naples before coming to London in 1758. In 1765 he went to Dublin where he married. He taught Mozart singing in Paris from 1777 to 1778. William Benson Earle [1740-1796] lived in the Cathedral Close at Salisbury. He was an amateur composer and was involved with running the Salisbury subscription concerts. It has been suggested Earle may have helped William Beckford with his musical studies. Earle probably met Tenducci when he performed at the Salisbury Musical Festivals. In 1770, Tenducci and his Irish wife Dorothea sang at the home of the poet and composer James Harris, who was a friend of William Earle. See, Berry, H. 'The Castrato and His Wife' 2011.
