Collectors' Items Relating to T.E. Lawrence
THOMAS BEAUMONT [ 1898-1991] Soldier AUTOGRAPH LETTER Signed, Mrs Murfin, 2pp, folio, "El Aurens", 18 Whitehill Ave, Luton, 5 July 1977, mentioning his MS, deaths of Vivyan Richards and Farid, commrnting on the press "I was there & who the hell are those people to KNOW IT ALL?" *T.W. Beaumont, No. 1 Vickers Machine gunner, who corresponded with Lawrence in the 1930s, is included in the nominal roll at the end of "Seven Pillars of Wisdom", as a member of the Hedjaz Armoured Car Company.

AIR MARSHALL SIR RICHARD WILLIAMS [b. 1890] Australian Pioneer Aviator. TWO AUTOGRAPH LETTERS Signed, to D. Whetton, 4pp, North Balwyn, Victoria, Nov 1977, commenting on A.H. Cobby, Australian ace, and others, only met Lawrence once. [ Ref: RGW10893] £75
*Sir Richard learnt to fly at Point Cook in 1914. In 1917, he took command of No. 1 Squadron, which assisted Lawrence of Arabia in the Hedjaz. He later became Director General of Civil Aviation in Australia. Some idea of his flying exploits and his style of leadership can be found in the memoir of another Australian pilot L.W. Sutherland, called "Aces and Kings".
T.E. LAWRENCE CENTENARY COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL, designed by JACQUELINE STIEGER, in 1988, cast in bronze, in form of rectangular miniature book, with head of Lawrence, in Arab head dress, on obverse, cutaway to reveal words inside relating to his life, for example "Clouds Hill", "R.A.F.", "Mint" and "T.E. Shaw", on reverse, his Brough motorcycle, 56mm x 48mm. Limited to 500 medals, each with authenticity certificate, signed by the Artist. [ Ref: RGW7213] £250
*A striking and original medal by an acclaimed jeweller and sculptor. Jacqueline Stieger studied at the Edinburgh College of Art from 1954-59, and in 1985 became a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. Over the last thirty years, she has received many important commissions in this country and abroad.Terence Mullaly writing this year in "The Medal", describes Jacqueline Stieger's portrait of Lawrence, as one of the twenty key medals of the second half of the twentieth century. He writes, "her medal of T.E. Lawrence both stands in a long line of portrait medals and breaks fresh ground".
