*The double portraits in the 'Town and Country Magazine' portrayed ladies and gentlemen, who were romantically linked. To avoid any legal complications they were not referred to by their real names, but by nicknames like "The Subtle Seducer" "The Lovely Emily" and "The Gallic Sportsmen", which thinly disguised their identity. This index prepared by the print dealers Suckling & Co for their own use, gives the references to the number in which the portrait appears has both the nicknames and the real names.
