YOULSTON PARK, near Barnstaple, Devon had been in the Chichester family since it was built in 1516 and it was leased by Mrs Amy Royle in 1919. The following year, she purchased the freehold for ?8,300 from Edward Chichester. Captain Royle probably left Youlston on his marriage to Barbara Chichester in 1951. In a Country Life article dated 1961 it is described as the home of Major Cavan and his sister Sylvia. In 1972, Captain Royle and Major Cavan agreed to sell the estate to J.S.C. Clark of Smythapark for ?17,000 and the contents at Sotheby?s valuation.
